WESTBURY Harriers clubmates Nigel Gates and Vicky Tester were the big winners at the British Masters 5k Road Championships in Horwich, near Bolton, at the weekend.
The decision to make the long trip north was amply rewarded as Gates won the over 65s age category and Tester was crowned champion in the women’s over 35s age group.
Gates clocked an impressive time of 18mins 01secs to place 43rd overall of the 128 runners and 1min 29secs clear of his nearest rival.
Tester was 58th overall in a time of 18mins 58secs and fifth woman behind a posse of quality over 40 runners.
Another west medal winner was former Yate & District AC runner Jane Wassell, who bagged silver in the over 50s age group clocking 19:13.
