Luke wins final race of the Yeovil 5k summer series

LUKE Evans wound up the Yeovil 5k lukeevanssummer series with an emphatic victory.

The Bristol & West runner (pictured left winning the Bourton 10k earlier this year) had hoped for a sub 15 minutes on the super fast course, especially as conditions were very good, but unfortunately Evans had little opposition.

Evans dominated the race on Wednesday evening to win in 15mins 32secs and while Taunton AC’s veteran James Watson was only three seconds behind he never looked like challenging the winner.

“Almost every race this summer has been won under 15 minutes and we went to the final one hoping there would be a good field to push Luke on to a fast time but it didn’t happen which was very disappointing,” said coach Mike Down.

The Bristol & West AC par of Mark Edwards (16:11) and Josh Moody (16:18) finished fourth and fifth respectively while Joe Connors as the top Westbury Harrier in 16:44.

Top woman was Hannah Taunton of Taunton AC (18:46) in 48th overall. There were 201 finishers.
