CHRIS McMillan of Weston AC and Great Western Runners’ Kelly Dicks are the 2016 Avon 10 miles road champions.
The pair came out on top at the Oldbury 10 staged by Thornbury Running Club last weekend with McMillan securing overall victory from a field of 232 finishers in a tie of 56mns 03secs while Dicks was 34th and fifth woman in a time of 67mins 39secs.
McMillan (pictured left), who celebrated his 29th birthday the following day and has been involved in the running scene since his school days, enjoyed a comfortable gap at the finish with Bristol & West’s Andrew Cooke second (56:39) and Ciaran McQuade third (56:43).
Top veteran was Weston’s Kieron Summers in fourth (56:53). Damian Speckley as the leading GWR man in eighth (58:36) just ahead of Team Bath’s Mike Blackmore (58:50) and B&W’s Mark Edwards (59:01).
Leading woman was Alice Burgin of Bedford (62:43) from CLC Striders’ veteran Liza Barry (66:11) with Sally Gray of Stafford third (67:37).
The course records of 50:19 (Michael Johnson in 2010) and 57:0 (Kim Fawke in 2008) remain intact for another year saving the organisers their £100 bonus offers.
