Keira and Millie have Gwent League glory in their sights

High-fliers: Millie Redman and Keira Devereux are closing in on the top two places overall in the Gwent League

THE North Somerset AC pair of Keira Devereux and Millie Redman are on course to clinch a one-two in the under 13 girls’ age group of the Gwent Cross Country League.

With just one fixture remaining at Blaise Castle, Bristol, next month, the duo are currently first and second in the rankings after another impressive outing at Pontypool Park last weekend.

Devereux claimed her third Gwent League win of the season on top of a second place to strengthen her lead at the top while Redman finished third which was her best result of the campaign following an 8th, 5th and 4th.

With support from Blythe Jones and Lyla Briffitt, in 33rd and 34th respectively, North Somerset finished third team on the day behind Cardiff Archers and Carmarthen Harriers and just four points ahead of Westbury Harriers, who were led home by Hannah Jones in 15th.

Overall that leaves them third as the season approaches its finale.

In the under 15 girls’ race Alice Bridger enjoyed her best finish of the season in fifth while likewise William Scott had his best result of the winter with third in the under 15 boys’ age group. Clubmate Louie Brunsdun was 14th.

In the under 17 men’s race Ollie Lock finished third just behind Westbury’s current overall leader Abdi Hasan (pictured right) in second. The result puts Lock fifth overall heading to Blaise with clubmate Alfie Hocking, who was ninth on the day, fourth overall and 14 points off a podium place.

In the team competition Westbury finished second to Cardiff AAC with North Somerset third.
