Teenager Hamblin smashes PB to soar up South West Rankings

NORTH Somerset AC teenager Ben Hamblin brought his season to a thrilling climax with a superb personal best last week.

Hamblin, who is coached by Julian Emery, slashed almost three seconds off his PB as he dipped under two minutes for the first time at the final British Milers’ Club south west regional meeting at the Exeter Arena.

Hamblin didn’t just creep under two minutes either as he clocked 1min 58.53secs in a strong race that saw the first six runners break the two minutes barrier in what was one of the best two-lap races seen this season.

The time immediately lifted Hamblin to second in the South West Rankings for under 17 men – up from 11th previously.

It is worth recalling that Hamblin’s best a year ago was 2:06.7 so the youngster has made terrific progress and will be one to watch over the next few years.

In the women’s 800m A race there was also an excellent win for Yate & District AC teenager Amelia Honor in a PB tiem of 2:19.07.

Her previous best was 2:20.92 which she set in the heats of the English Schools’ Championships while a year ago her best was 2:30.01 so again that represents excellent progression.
