JENNY Spink smashed the course record to win the sixth annual Wiltshire 10 miles road race in Melksham yesterday.
The Bristol & West AC runner finished fifth overall in a time of 56min 18secs to carve a massive four minutes off the previous record set in 2011.
While the 10 distance is rarely run these days – more is the pity as it is a classic distance and ideal preparation for a half marathon – it was a P for Jenny eclipsing the 57:32 she ran in the Notts 10 last year.
It also confirms the 34-year-old is steadily returning to her best form after injury as it follows up her swift 16:47 which she ran in the Aztec West Fast 5k last month.
Behind Spink in second place was Jackie Rockliffe of Avon Valley Runners , who had a good run and along with club mate Ruth Barnes and the Chippenham Harriers pair of Claire Frances and Michelle Maxwell. They achieved a double victory for Wiltshire in the South West Inter-Counties race with Avon a close second.
