Why North Somerset AC youngsters are celebrating

NORTH Somerset AC’s young athletes are celebrating the best Gwent League season in the club’s history.

With the 2021/22 campaign now wrapped up the overall results from the five fixtures revealed that North Somerset came away with four team golds and a silver in the five age groups.

Silver stars: North Somerset’s Under 15 boys squad (L to R): Jacob Forsbrook, Will Lacey, Herbie Cooksley, Patrick Hipkiss and Ben Collins with coaches Julian Emery, Steve Parsons and Russ Forsbrook

It was gold for both the novice boys and girls squads with Oliver Finch adding individual gold and Oscar Warren silver while Edward Stoate came close to completing a clean sweep as he finished fourth overall.

Gold also for the under 20 men with Will Cheek leading the way with individual silver, secured by a great run in the fifth and final meeting at Swansea as he placed second in the race, his highest finish of the season.

The under 13 boys also delivered double gold with Joseph Finch crowned individual champion thanks to a fantastic set of results – 3rd, 1st, 1st, 3rd and 2nd – to lead his clubmates to the team trophy.

Then the under 15 boys claimed team silver with the B team fourth overall and first B team while there was individual bronze for Ben Collins.

“All in all this has been the club’s most successful winter season on record,” said a club spokesman.

“Endurance coaches Julian Emery and Russ Forsbrook can take great credit for the superb job they have done with the athletes, and will no doubt be very proud of the athletes achievements throughout.

“Special mention for Chris Millard, as he continues to unearth and develop talented young athletes, without which we would not have achieved such success.”
