Big Apple trio: Chris McCabe, Tom Gange and Nicholas Clay
WESTBURY Harriers clubmates Tom Gange and James Shorney made their mark in the New York marathon at the weekend.
Gange finished first west country runner in the Big Apple with a time of 2hrs 45mins 53secs, which carved almost six minutes off his previous PB of 2:51.44 set in Boston last year – so he clearly relishes racing in the States!
Interestingly that time is the fastest by a Westbury harrier this year and puts Gange 93rd in the 2019 South West Rankings, which are still topped by Bristol & West’s Peter Le Grice with his PB of 2:16.22 to win Brighton in April.
Shorney, enjoying a rare outing this year, also notched up a PB of 2:46.09 which represented a big improvement on his previous best of 2:54.09 set just over a year ago in the Dublin event.
Also from Westbury Chris McCabe clocked 3:29.24 and Nicholas Clay 3:55.08.
