Farley scorches to victory in opening Bitton 5k race

ROBERT Farley continued his fine form with an emphatic victory in the opening 5k race of his own club’s annual summer series.

Farley dominated the Bitton Road Runners’ 5k held on the traffic-free Bath to Bristol cycle path and clocked an impressive time of 16mins 02secs to finish 56seconds clear of M40 veteran Andy Bush from Emersons Green Running Club.

The time compares well to Farley’s personal best of 15:48 which he set in the Bristol Track Club 5k on the Odd Down cycle circuit last month when he came 47th in a high quality field.

That result continued Farley’s strong winter form in which this year he has also recorded PBs in the Weston 5 (25:52) and the parkrun circuit (16:46, Pomphrey Hill), plus finished runner-up in the Calne Clock Challenge 10k.

Clubmate Max Barnett was third (17:04) in the opening race.

Leading woman was Hannah Dowling of EGRC placing 24th overall (19:22) with her clubmate Nicola Runkee not far behind (20:05) and Westbury Harriers’ Olivia Zeltner third (20:10).
