A former British junior international, born and bred in Bath but now working and living in Bergen, Norway provided the headline news in the 2016 Vitality Bath half marathon.
At first there was just scratched heads and bewilderment about the identity of Rebecca Hilland after she had finished fourth in the women’s race and was only six seconds shy of making the podium – which no Team Bath female has done in modern times.
But who was this mystery runner whose CV according to UK Athletics features numerous races in Norway with the occasional foray into the UK?
Now it can be revealed that the 35-year-old is none other than Rebecca Wade, who as a teenager was a star athlete for Bath High School and the former Wessex and Bath club.
Wade, who was a regular on the back pages of the Chron, made her Great Britain debut at the 1997 European Cross Country Championships in Lisbon finishing 12th to lead the junior women’s squad to the bronze team medals.
