Sands of (personal best) Time

News of our blog has spread far and wide!

A mere 32 days after our first post we’ve been approached by a Paris PR agency to plug their illustrious clients, and we’re delighted to help, naturellement.

Possibly the world’s most difficult half-marathons, 2017 saw the first Half Marathon des Sables, (HMDS) (Marathon of the Sands) in Fuerteventura, while this year will see three Half Marathons des Sables – staged in Morocco in October then in Jordan and Egypt in November with four-day events ranging from 70-110Km.

Three extremely successful French women will be among a field made up of elite athletes and top-level amateurs.

Indeed, 52% of entrants are women, with around half of starters walking rather than running and an amazing 98% finishing.

Laure Manaudou won the 400m freestyle gold at the 2004 Athens Olympics. She bagged two more medals at those games and broke the 400m freestyle world record in 2006.

Athletics and gymnastics have always been a passion for Marine Lorphelin, who, in 2013, was crowned Miss France and completed the Paris Marathon.

Since September 2021 she has had a weekly health show on France’s RTL radio and in 2022 she completed the HMDS Fuerteventura.

She works as a GP in New Caledonia, in the South Pacific.

Left back Laure Boulleau spent 13 years with Paris Saint-Germain Women and represented the French national team 65 times between 2005-2016.

Her media career began in 2018, since when she has become a sports co-ordinator at women’s PSG, a presenter at PSGTV and a Canal+ consultant.

In 2023, Laure Manaudou and Marine will compete in Egypt with Laure Boulleau running in Jordan.

Entries are now closed, but we are informed the UK has 37 competitors in Morocco with 28 in Jordan and Egypt.

We’d like to wish the very best of British to these three brilliant women and everyone representing the UK.

Suffice to say, if you have an event you’d like us to plug we’d love to hear from you.

Is there a doctor in the house? Marine Lorphelin is a practising GP who in 2013 was crowned Miss France and completed the Paris Marathon.
