Leather smashes PB as she opens 2022 in winning style

IN her first race of 2022 Westbury Harriers’ Ellie Leather again underlined what an accomplished racer she has become indoors with another big personal best.

Leather (pictured), who is on a scholarship at Cincinnati University, set a school record with a time of 9mins 30.10secs to win the 3000m at the Jim Green Invitational in Lexington, Kentucky.

“This was her first race of the indoor season and shows a lot of promise for the rest of her track career at Cincinnati,” said Jason Michael, who is her coach at Westbury.

The time carved 16 seconds off Leather’s previous best, which she set at the same meeting last year and also broke the Yate & District AC club record by 12 seconds.

Last summer Leather notched up PBs of 2:07.37 (800m), 4:16.73 (1500m) and 16:40.28 (5000m debut) so Michael is right to be optimistic for the year ahead.
