BEN Rawlins has just achieved a fabulous result on the international stage – probably the best result of his career to date.
Competing at the World Triathlon Sprint and Relay Championships in Montreal, Canada, the Westbury Harrier finished second in the sprint competition.
Wearing the colours of Great Britain in the 20-24 age group competition Rawlins completed the 750m swim, 20k bike ride and 5k road run in 60mins 33secs to win his first international medal.
Coming out of the swim in 10th (9mins 42secs) Rawlins enjoyed a good transition and was part of a strong lead bike group who finished close together before heading off for the run.
“The training at Blaise and the mud of the Gwent League seems to have worked well as Ben fought his way clear to second place behind Pieter Vanderhenst of Belgium and ahead of Victor Delgado of Mexico,” said proud Westbury coach Mike Mewse.
Great work all round guys and good to see a local athlete shining on the world stage. Hopefully more success lies ahead for Rawlins.
