Griffiths smashes PB to make top 10 in the Cardiff Bay 10k

OWAIN Jones was the leading local runner in the hotly-contested Cardiff Bay 10k yesterday.

The Bristol & West AC runner (pictured below right) finished 16th overall and first veteran over 35 in a time of 31mins 50secs with clubmates Alberto Beltran also making the top 25 in 22nd place clocking 32:19 and Andrew Drake 57th (34:28).

Steve Goss, also of B&W, scooped the over 50 veterans’ third place prize as he clocked 36:24 in 96th.

Fresh from his solid run in the Bath half marathon Team Bath’s Aaron Pritchard was 25th (32:33).

A couple of former B&W runners made their presence felt at the sharp end with fellow Devonians Shaun Antell (Bideford) and Tom Merson (Exmouth) placing sixth (29:53) and ninth (30:37) respectively.

In the women’s race Team Bath’s Eilidh Bell (pictured above) was the leading west woman in eighth clocking a PB of 36mins 42secs finishing just ahead of Bristol & West’s Natalie Griffiths (36:42), easily beating her previous best of 37:25 set on her debut at the distance in Bristol last year.

Also from B&W Isabelle Talbot Price, at her first attempt over the distance, was 10th woman in 37:29, Fiona Marks 11th (37:56) and Catie O’Donoghue 14th (38:43), smashing her previous best of 39:28 set in London last year.

Kelly Dicks of Great Western Runners ran strongly to finish 15th in 39:35.
