DYLAN Stoneman is this week celebrating becoming a British record holder.
The 17-year-old Team Bath AC runner broke a 41-year-old record when he raced to a personal best time of 69mins 09secs in the Reading half marathon on Sunday.
Stoneman’s time, in his third attempt at the distance, broken the UK U17 record previously set by Barry Cowman with 69:33 in 1982.
“I’m really happy with that,” said Stoneman. “It went a lot better than I expected. I had been hoping to run under 70 minutes and would have been happy with that but it obviously went better.
“I have broken the British record which was 41 years old so I am very happy to do that. It will also get me an elite entry for U20 runners at the next Bath half marathon!”
Stoneman’s time for one so young is certainly mightily impressive. He made his half debut in Cardiff on October 2nd clocking 76mins 26secs and then a couple of weeks later improved to 73:36 in Bath.
