And to further underline the success of the club in the past year they also received three further individual awards.

Accomplished junior thrower James Viner, who is coached by Matt Spicer, won the South West Young Volunteer of the Year.

In addition, Ellen Taylor won the South West Unsung Hero Award and Sam Hillier-Smith was runner-up in the Coach of the Year section.

“It was a great night!” said chairman Jeremy Dale.

“We have been runners-up before but I think this is definitely the first time we have won this award as a club.

“It is brilliant to be recognised for all the hard work everyone has done over the past two years and the work we did with England Athletics in putting on pilot events last summer.

“It is an award not just for the officials but also all the people in the background at the club as well.”

Remarkably the club hosted 17 events last summer as competition returned after a lengthy lockdown, providing much-needed competition for young and senior athletes alike.

“International success and personal bests are brilliant and that’s the headlines for the club but to be able to get the track back open and being used again was a real success,” added Dale.

Well done to Yate & District AC.
