CLEVEDON AC’s Mark Williams smashed his personal best in the Taunton half marathon on Sunday.
Williams completed the course in a time of 78mins 27secs to carve 1min 34secs off his four-year-old best set in the Bristol half.
The performance completes a great start to the year for Williams. In his only other race – according to the Powerof10 website – he ran a PB of 27:41 at the Weston Prom 5 last month.
With that sort of form he’ll be one to watch over the coming months.
There was also a PB for clubmate Gary Lewis – by just one second! They all count, though, so Lewis can’t be too unhappy with his time of 84:42 which eclipsed his 84:43 from the 2019 Tewkesbury half.
Leading Clevedon runner at Taunton was M50 veteran Steve Wood, who finished 11th in 78:22, which was only seven seconds off his PB. He was also top over 50 veteran.
Overall winner was former Bristol & West AC runner Tom Merson, now back with his home town club Exmouth Harriers in Devon, with an impressive 67:06.
In the full marathon – and his first since 2015 – Clevedon M60 runner Clive Richards (pictured) clocked 3:14.33.
The women’s race was won by Weston AC’s Alice Smith in 3:14.55
