Why Annabel failed to appear in the Bath half official results

A Granger
THE mystery of Annabel Granger’s performance in the Vitality Bath half marathon has been solved.

I saw Annabel moving well in the early stages of the race and full expected her to feature among the leading women runners and certainly to win the over 40s prize.

On a hectic finish line it is never easy to spot all the leading runners so I thought I had missed Annabel but then her names failed to run up in the official results and it seemed she had failed to finish.

“That doesn’t sound like Annabel,” reckoned Bristol & West AC coach Mike Down.

Mike was spot-on. It has been confirmed that Annabel did enough finish the race in a self-time 78mins 47secs but her chip timing device wasn’t working so she failed to register when she crossed the mat on the line.

For the record that time would have placed Annabel sixth and indeed firs veteran over 40, earning her £225.00 in prize money.
