WESTBURY Harriers’ over 65s squad raced to a superb victory in the British Masters Cross Country relays in Long Eaton on Saturday.

The Westbury trio of Marilyn Palmer, Pat Gallagher and Shirley Hume out-classed their rivals to finish four minutes clear of Worcester AC with Roundhay Runners third.
Third on the opening stage with Palmer the Harriers raced into the lead on stage two with Gallagher and then Hume stamped the club’s authority on the race with the second fastest time of the day.

It wasn’t the only local success of the day as the Bristol & West AC trio of Sarah Everitt, Clare Jolliffe and Tracy Allan won the team silver medals in the over 45s age group.
Everitt gave the team a great start by finishing second on stage one and at the same time clocking the second fastest time overall. Jolliffe then took the club into the lead with the fourth fastest time of the day and while Allan couldn’t hold onto that but she secured a deserved silver medal.
Furthermore the men’s over 65s squad David Hart, Mike Chipping and Tom Burgess placed seventh.
