WESTBURY Harriers under 17 women’s trio of Ellie Leather, Hannah Hobbs and Ellie Wallace took gold in the Midland Counties Road Relay Championships on Saturday.

Leather ran the first leg to finish in a solid seventh place, before handing over to Hobbs who chased down five of the teams in front to cross the line in second. That left Wallace to run the anchor leg, bringing the team home to win a fantastic gold.

Remarkably all three girls competed in the 1500m final of the England Schools Athletics Association National Championships in Gateshead earlier in July, and will now look forward to competing in the National Road Relay Championships in October.

The B team didn’t do badly either with Stephanie Cummin, Sophie Reed and Rosie Allen finishing seventh.

Meanwhile, Kate Howard, Rosie Hamilton-Jones and Rhiannon Paton took silver in the under 13 girls’ race. Howard ran the second fastest time of the day, having only recently joined the team from the U11s, while Hamilton-Jones clocked the fourth fastest time of the day.
