Victoria sparkles with super marathon debut in Seville

Congratulations to Victoria Kenny for making an impressive debut in the marathon in Spain yesterday.

The former Bristol & West AC runner clocked a time of 2hrs 41mins 20secs in the Seville Marathon to put her eighth fastest in the UK this year and third quickest in the South West.

The course is clearly quick because it is also saw a superb run by fellow British athlete Jess Piasecki of Stockport as she soared to second on the UK All-Time list with a superb 2:22.25.

And behind her in Spain there were also PBs for fellow Brits Rose Harvey of Clapham Chasers (2:27.17), the Aldershot, the Farnham & District pair of Philippa Bowden (2:34.28) and Sally Ratcliffe (2:39.06) before Kenny came in. Stephanie Davis of Clapham Chasers (2:37.38) was also ahead of Kenny.

It was Kenny’s second race of the year and second PB having run 34:42 in the Speedway 10k last month. That showed she was in good form and yesterday’s result proved her preparations for the marathon were spot-on.

It is also worth pointing out that Kenny’s time places her 16th on the All-Time List for the South West, which is headed by Bristol & West’s London Olympian Claire Hallissey (2:27.44).
