Title triumph as Bristol & West AC men retain Midlands crown

Star guys: (L to R): Kurt Taylor, Andy Salmon, Max Davis, Felix McGrath, Owain Jones & Jack Millar

IT WAS a fantastic day for Bristol & West AC at the Midland Counties Cross Country Championships.

In 2022 the senior men ended a 140-year wait to win the coveted team title – now 12 months later they retained it at Leamington Spa with a superb effort.

A few of the leading runners were missing but those who stepped in more than exceeded expectations as the B&W six-strong squad won by 10 points.

“Out first five guys were well in front of Notts AC so we had to wait for our sixth scorer, Andy Salmon, and he was absolutely chuffed with the win,” said Kurt Taylor, who led the team home in third place.

“Andy had never been part of the winning team before so that was brilliant.”

And further underlines team manager Mike Down’s mantra that every single runner counts in a team success. Everyone has a part to play.

Taylor repeated the bronze medal success of Jack Millar a year ago with the latter again finishing in the top ten with further support from Max Davis, Felix McGrath and team captain Owain Jones, who is enjoying a brilliant winter campaign.

For good measure the women’s team won bronze medals which represents a terrific result for them as they had been hit hard by injury and illness. Further information to follow when official results are confirmed.
