Tamsin’s ladies earn bragging rights with record turn-out at Blaise

Feeling proud: Team manager Tamsin Chick

WESTBURY Harriers did a great job in staging the second Gwent Cross Country League fixture on their ‘home’ course at Blaise Castle.

The 12 races across six age groups, male and female, boasted a staggering total of 1,329 finishers and to cope with that amount of runners takes a huge amount of organisation.

As well as ensuring a slick meeting Westbury also managed to field record senior teams thanks to an internal challenge between the team managers Tamsin Chick and Mike Mewse.

“I was delighted to have 50 ladies cross the finish line,” said Tamsin.

“I was trying to get out over 40 which would have been a record since I was team manager  so to get put 50 was fabulous to see.”

That mean Tamin’s ladies beat men hands down because despite the promise of free beer they managed 35 finishers.

“That was also a record turn-out so Mike’s bribe of free beer worked!” added Tamsin.

All good fun and with close to 100 seniors across both races on such a busy day – and the Harriers also provided superb weather for free! – the club can feel proud of staging a great competition.
