Stokes sparkles in Valencia marathon – and so do the Sadlers

ADAM Stokes moved to sixth in the South West Rankings for the marathon after a sparking personal best in Spain last weekend.

Racing the popular Valencia event – a huge contingent of British runners were on the start line – Stokes (pictured right) clipped 1min 19secs off his 2021 best with a time of 2hrs 25mins 000secs.

It gave the Bristol & West AC runner 179th place overall and he was the 19th Brit across the finish of a super fast course which was won by Kenyan debutant Kelvin Kiptum in an astonishing 2:01.53.

Four other B&W runners were at the race, including three siblings from the Sadler family.

On his marathon debut Hugh Sadler, coached by Dave Bedwell,  finished in 2:26.34 to go seventh on the South West Rankings while sisters Olivia and Miranda, both former track stars as juniors, clocked 2:58.06 and 3:24.52 respectively.

For Olivia that was her first sub three hours marathon and a big PB while for Miranda it was her first attempt at the distance.

Nick Jenkins clocked 2:57.32.
