Sophie is ending season on a high as she throws another PB

SOPHIE Hamilton celebrated her first appearance in an England vest in superb style over the weekend.

Not only did the Bristol & West athlete (pictured above) win the javelin competition at the England Athletics Throws Fest near Northampton but she also broke her personal best with a throw of 49.10m.

That throw smashed her previous best of 47.23, set when finishing third at the English Schools’ Championships in July and in addition also lifted her to second in the UK Rankings for under 20 women – despite being only a first year in that age group.

Congratulations to Sophie and her coach Ken Holmes for what has been a fantastic summer – which also saw her win her first GB vest as well.

The meeting also saw a victory for Yate & District AC athlete Owen Merrett in the under 18s 6kg hammer (PB of 69.52) while clubmate Theo Spurrell was runner-up in the javelin (61.58).
