SIMON Nott reclaimed his Melksham 10 miles road title, which incorporated the Wiltshire Championships, on Sunday. Nott held off a spirited challenge from Bristol & West’s improving Ciaran McQuade, who clocked 55:40.
Nott of Calne Running Club led the field out of Melksham with a group of eight runners close behind which included McQuade, Jenny Spink of Bristol & West AC and the Team Bath trio of James Donald, Thomas Davies and Mike Dooley.
As the field approached Bewley Common on the outskirts of Lacock, Nott had managed to open up a winning lead over Mcquade and went on to retain the title that he last won in 2014 in an impressive 53mins 33secs.
Supported by Rich Ayling of Avon Valley Runners in eighth, 11th place Heath Bampton of Oxford AC and 17th placed Mike Rose of Avon Valley Runners that gave Wiltshire saw a home victory in the Inter-Counties event ahead of Avon, Somerset and Gloucestershire.
The trio of Team Bath AC runners were joined by Stuart Henderson to take the club team prize ahead of Avon Valley Runners and Bristol & West AC. There were 421 finishers.
