FORMER Westbury Harrier Martin Palmer finished an excellent sixth in the grueling Alpe D’Huez Triathlon today.
Palmer showed he still has that terrific competitive spirit by completing the course in a time of 6hrs 15mins 30secs with victory going to James Cunnama of South Africa in 5:58.02.
“That was fantastic! ” said Palmer.
“The swim was terrible, panic attack again after about 200m, but backstroke for a bit off to the side got my breathing under control, then from there just amazing.
“So so happy!”
It is worth noting that the bike course included an ascent up the legendary Alp D’Huez and its infamous hairpin bends seen regularly on the Tour de France.
