BRISTOL & West AC women made their mark at the Grizzly multi terrain race held in east Devon today.
In the traditional, full-length 20 miles race which starts and finishes in the seaside town of Seaton the remarkable Annabel Granger (pictured right at the South West Cross Country Championships) finished runner-up completing the distance in a time of 2hrs 51mins 59secs.
That placed Granger 33rd overall of the 1,385 finishers who survived the bogs, mud, stony beaches and steep climbs with victory going to Elizabeth Dyson of Devon club Haldon Trail Runners in 2:48.23.
In the men’s race Bath ultra trial specialist Damian hall was sixth (2:38.38) with Team Bath’s Barry Awan 10th (2:42.19).
In the shorter Cub race, which measures around 10 miles and avoids some of the worst of the Grizzly terrain, victory in the women’s race went to B&W’s Catie O’Donoghue as she finished sixth overall in 1:14.53 to retain her title.
Twelve months ago O’Donoghue placed fourth overall in 1:13.00 but conditions were far more testing today.
