ROSIE Hamilton James continued her fine form this winter with fourth place in the senior women’s 6k race at the British Students’ Cross Country Championships.

Just a week after winning the Midland Counties Under 20s title the Westbury Harrier switched vests for Birmingham University, where she is studying, for one of the biggest events of the winter.

It was her debut in the event and she can take great encouragement from being among the frontrunners and finishing 15 seconds off the podium in a field of 49 runners.

Another Harrier, Leeds University student Ellie Hobbs, was 106th.

In the longer 8k race fellow Westbury Harrier Floren Scrafton, running in the colours of Oxford University, placed 24th.

The biggest success of the day for the West Country, though, came in the senior men’s 10k with victory going to Devonian Will Battershill, who is a team-mate of Hamilton-James at Birmingham Uni.
