ARTIE Savage-Swaine can take enormous satisfaction from his result in the Virgin London Mini Marathon at the weekend.
Representing the South West Savage-Swaine, who is a member of Westbury Harriers, finished a gallant fifth in a strong under 17 men’s race in which just eight seconds separated the top nine – and just five from second to ninth.
Indeed, Savage-Swaine only finished three seconds away from a podium finish but that shouldn’t detract from a super effort by the youngster.
It also continues the fine form he has been showing over the summer with personal bests recorded over 1500m (4:22.4), 3000m (8:53.86) and 5k on the road (15:15) at the South West PB Series.
That 3k time was also clocked when finished eighth at the England Athletics Under 17 Championships at the Sportcity Stadium, Manchester.
So now it will be interesting to see how Savage-Swaine fares during the cross country season.
In 20th a further 10 seconds behind was Westbury clubmate Seamus Robinson. In the under 17 women’s race Bristol & West’s Megan Hornung placed 16th.
Team Bath’s Harry Maxwell did well to make the top ten in the under 15 boys’ age group finishing eighth.
