North Somerset youngsters make club history in relays

Bronze boys: Felix Ashby, Leo Darlington and Joseph Finch

NORTH Somerset AC’s under 13 boys are celebrating an historic success this week.

Under the guidance of team manager Russ Forsbrook the gallant trio of Leo Darlington, Felix Ashby and Joseph Finch delivered a stirring performance to win the bronze medals in the under 13 boys’ race at the National Road Relays in Birmingham.

“This is the first time the club has got a medal at national level,” said proud coach Julian Emery.

The boys’ certainly delivered the best performance of their young lives so far to make the podium behind champion’s Wolverhampton & Bilston and Windsor, Slough & Eton in second.

Darlington got them off to a solid start on the opening stage coming home in 15th with Ashby clawing back six places to hand over to Finch in ninth.

That certainly left the youngster with a lot of work to do but Finch tore through the field and clocking the sixth fastest time of the time with a sparkling 13mins 32secs secured the bronze medals by just three seconds from Blackburn.

A terrific achievement for the lads and the club.
