No cross country meeting for Bristol, says Brackstone

KeithBrackstoneBRISTOL will not be staging a cross country meeting this autumn.

With the British Athletics Cross Challenge sticking to the same calendar as last winter, opening with a fixture at Milton Keynes and the withdrawal of support from Bristol City Council organising club Bristol & West AC has decided not to go ahead with the meeting.

That means, for the time being at least, the Mike Sully Trophy and Gemma Butler Bowl will not be awarded.

The club’s development officer Keith Brackstone (pictured) said they had looked at resurrecting the Ashton Court 10k multi terrain race and incorporating the Mike Sully Trophy and Gemma Butler Bowl within that framework but he had run into the bureaucracy at Bristol City Council and hadn’t been able to get a decision on whether the club could use the facility.

“We couldn’t get a straight answer so there will not be an event this autumn,” said Brackstone.
