Millar digs out top performance in the Milton Keynes mud

JACK Millar enjoyed one of his best results on the country at the second UK Cross Challenge event staged at Milton Keynes yesterday.

The Bristol & West AC runner (pictured above in the colours of Oxford University), who is flying out to Kenya today for a training camp, relished the wet, muddy conditions at a rainy Teardrop Lakes to finish an excellent seventh in a strong domestic field.

That backed up his solid ninth place in Cardiff last month so must rank alongside his 26th place in the Inter-Counties Championships and 32nd in the ‘National’ at the start of the year.

Millar was the only local senior man to make the trip for the event while clubmate Kate Maltby was the only representative in the senior women’s race as she finished 22nd.

In the young athletes’ races the top West Country result came from Wiltshire starlet Kiya Dee as she continued her winning start to the season with another emphatic victory in the under 15 girls’ race.

Swindon Harriers’ youngster Fletcher Hart made the top 20 in the under 15 boys’ race while team Bath’s Alex Parsons was 38th in the under 17 men’s age group and clubmate India Ibbotson placed 65th in the under 20 women’s race.
