MEGAN Hornung could be a runner to watch this winter after making quite an impression on her debut for the Midland Counties representative team.
The Bristol & West AC teenager (pictured right) was selected on the back of her fine fourth place in the inter girls’ 3000m at the English Schools’ Championships in July, Horning finishing fourth in a personal best time of 9mins 45.62secs.
That put her top of the South West Rankings, which she is likely to keep with the season now coming to an end and fifth overall in the UK.
So offered the invite to run the Cardiff 5k by the Midlands women’s team manager Claire Martin, Hornung leapt the opportunity and more than justified her selection by leading the junior women’s squad to a team victory over Wales.
In addition, Hornung clocked an amazing 16mins 52secs in her first attempt at the distance which is currently the third equal fastest under-17 in the country. Hopefully that form suggests Hornung could be in for a cracking winter season.
