CALLING time on his cross country season in which he has enjoyed a terrific campaign Max Davis scorched to a superb win in the Chippenham Spring 10 miles road race on Sunday.
The Bristol & West AC runner opted to give the Inter Counties a miss for an outing on the road and his debut at the distance – and what a debut it proved to be.
Showing his class Davis dominated the race to finish over two minutes clear of multi-ties Wiltshire champion Simon Nott, clocking a highly respectable time of 51mins 24secs.
Davis would be too modest to admit it but that time was no more than anyone would have expected of him having only last month run a scintillating PB of 14mins 12secs at the Armagh 5k International road race in Northern Ireland.
Clearly when he puts his mind to it Davis is more than capable of going a lot quicker at that distance.
Not was a distance runner-up (53:47) with Alex Bampton of Highgate Harriers third (54:28).
The Westbury Harriers trio of Oli Beale (56:31, M40 1st), Paul Gardiner (57:33, M40 2nd) and Anthony Glover (59:31, M45 1st) all made the top ten in 5th, 7th and 8th respectively.
Westbury also had the women’s winner with veteran Lucy Richens claiming the top prize in a time of 64:34. Clubmates Kathryn Allen (71:42) and Nicola Doyle (73:20) were 7th and 8th respectively.
Ali Vaz of Thornbury RV ran strongly in fourth (68:52).
