WE are always happy to report on the success of local athletes overseas so it is encouraging to note the latest result from Westbury Harrier Ellie Leather (pictured).
Leather, who is a student at Rice University, was competing at the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletics Association) Div 1 Great Lakes Regional Cross Country Championships in Evansville, Indiana and finished 14th and her college’s first scorer in the 6k race.
It was Leather’s fifth cross country race of the autumn during which she has been very consistent featuring at the top end of all her races.
In the summer she also recorded personal bests over 800m (2:07.37) and 1500m (4:16.73) and made an encouraging debut over 5000m, clocking 16:40.28, putting her fourth in the South West Rankings for 2021.
Also in America at the West Regionals at Sacramento, California. Bristol & West AC’s Zoe Wassell, who is a student at San Francisco University finished 75th (21:22).
Meanwhile at Waco, Texas, Team Bath AC’s Caitlin Wosika, who is on a scholarship at Rice University, was 13th in 21:13 for the 6k challenge in the South Central Championships.
