WESTBURY Harrier Kelly Winstone and Team Bath’s Dan Jones are among the local entries for the Brooks Snowdonia Marathon on Saturday morning.
This daunting race encircles Snowdon and has a real kick in the tail with a daunting two mile long climb from 22 to 24 miles followed by a thigh-cramping two miles descent to the finish. So why has Jones opted for the event?
“It is something I have always wanted to do because my dad is from that area and I used to go there regularly,” said Dan.
“I have recced the last for miles so I know what to expect at the end of the race – and the legs are sure to be killing me at that point! It is probably the hardest marathon around but I am looking forward to it.”
Kelly (pictured left) is running the race to raise money for Tenovus Cancer Care and it will be her second marathon of the year after clocking 3:48.31 in London
“I’m nervous and worry that I won’t stand up to this challenge but I know I’m doing it for all the right reasons,” said Kelly on n her Facebook page.
Good luck to both runners.
