Kate’s GB vest prize after flying high on the fells

KATE Maltby’s decision to start a new life in the Lake District has seen her make a dramatic return to international athletics.

Around a year ago the Bristol & West AC runner swapped her home near Stroud for a new adventure in West Cumbria, working at Forest How guest house.

Flying high: Kate Maltby has always loved running on the fells

Maltby had always loved running over the hills and fells and with the Lake District on her doorstep she has clearly taken full advantage of her new training playground.

The results have been dramatic.

Last weekend Maltby finished third in the British Uphill Mountain trails and then second in the downhill race, earning her a place in the Great Britain team for the inaugural World Mountain and Trail Running Championships in Chang Mai, Thailand, from November 11-14th.

“It has been a brilliant weekend for me, a result of lots of hard work and change and I can’t wait to run for GB again after eight years!” said Maltby.

“Never give up!”

Clubmate Felix McGrath made the long trip north from the West Country and placed a creditable ninth in the men’s race.
