KATE Reed was a surprise starter in the Oldbury 10 miles road race.
The 2008 Beijing Olympian is making a determined comeback attempt after years of injury and illness and has enjoyed some decent results of late, including third places in both the Cardiff and Swansea Bay 10k road races last month.
Reed started brightly and was leading the women’s race from Bristol & West clubmate Kate Hulls but after sensing a problem with her foot wisely pulled out of the race to avoid any further damage.
