In-form Ellie scorches to victory in Gwent League

ELLIE Wallace raced to a superb victory in the second Gwent Cross Country League race at Brecon on Sunday.

The North Somerset AC runner (pictured above at the opening Gwent League event) dominated the senior women’s field to finish 35 seconds clear of Lauren Cooper from Parc Bryn Bach Runners with Bristol & West AC’s Chelsea Creek a creditable third.

Wallace’s runaway win continues the good form for the North Somerset AC runner, who is coached by Julian Emery.

She set a PB of 16mins 16secs for 5k on the road in Cardiff in August and opened her cross country season with a solid 12th place in the opening British Athletics Cross Challenge Series at Cardiff last month.

Crucially in that race she was fifth in the under 23s age category as that remains her big target for the year; winning a place in the GB Under 23 team for the European Cross Country Championships.

The trials are scheduled for a week on Saturday (November 27th) at Sefton Park, Liverpool and on current form Wallace is sure to be among the contenders.

Also in the senior women’s race The B&W pair of Francis Arnott and Amy Partridge did well to make the top ten in seventh and ninth places respectively while Westbury Harriers’ leading woman was Catherine Treble in fifth – and top veteran over 35.

Kelly Dicks of Great Western Runners also enjoyed a terrific run to continue her good form this autumn by finishing 10th.
