Hogweed Trotters women clinch relay gold from Westbury

Golden oldies! The Hogweed Trotters W65 winning team at the National Masters Cross Country Relays

IT was not only the Bristol & West AC veterans who finished in the medals at the National Cross Country Relays at Long Eaton, near Derby.

Admittedly the women’s over 65s competition wasn’t that well supported but on the basis that you can only beat who turns up the Hogweed Trotters and Westbury Harriers squads deserve credit for both making the podium in the 3x3k race.

Solid silver: The Westbury women

For the Hogweed trio of Sylvia Crump, Lesley Harding and Caroline Lavis victory was emphatic as they finished over two minutes clear of their local rivals with Harding and Lavis also posting the two fastest individual times of the day.

Third quickest time was Helen Kershaw, who ran the opening stage for the Westbury women and was supported by Eithne Noonan and Gill Anagnostakis.

Well done to all those women for ensuring a great day for local clubs at a national event.
