TERRIFIC news just released today with Bristol & West AC’s Hannah Alderson selected to represent England at the Copenhagen marathon on Sunday May 14th.
Selection represents Hannah’s first international call-up since she represented Great Britain at the 2012 European Cross Country Championships.
Subsequently she dipped out of the sport for a few years but under the careful guidance of long-time coach Alan Thomas has made a concerted comeback recently, culminating in her winning a silver medal at the England Marathon Championships in London last October, running a personal best of 2hrs 35mins 58secs on her first attempt at the 26.2 miles challenge.
It was that performance, which put her 17th in the UK Rankings last year, that earned her a place in the four-strong women’s team for the Copenhagen event, which is renowned for its high quality field and a super-fast, flat course.
“This race is an opportunity for athletes to develop international experience,” said a spokesman for England Athletics.
Joining Hannah in the England team will be Philippa Bowden (2:34.28), Anya Culling (2:36.21) and Dani Dimmock (2:38.18).
