ELLIE Wallace again underlined her emergence as one of the best female runners in the South West with an excellent second place behind Ireland international Ciara Mageean in the On Running Bristol Track Club 5k last weekend.
The North Somerset AC runner was brave enough to go off with Mageean as she followed a fast pace being set by pacemaker Jonny Thewliss.
Ultimately Wallace paid for that effort and ended up racing the last lap on her own which probably cost her a personal best as she finished in 15mins 50secs, just two seconds off her best.
“Ellie ran the last lap on her own but that was a solid effort,” said coach Julian Emery.
“She is in a good place and I think she be looking tor un 15mins 40secs or quicker this year.”
Wallace will be defending her England Athletics 5k road title at the Mid-Cheshire event in two weeks time, the race in which she her PB last year and won an England vest for the Armagh 5k in February.
“Onwards and upwards!” added Emery.
1 Ciara Mageean (Ireland) 15:24; 2 Ellie Wallace (North Somerset AC) 15:50; 3 Phillipa Bowden (AFD) 16:03.
