DAVE Eagon smashed his personal best as he dominated the Grittleton 10k road race yesterday.
Going into the race, held on quiet but lumpy lanes in Wiltshire, the Bristol & West AC runner (pictured above) boasted a PB of 33mins 26secs which he set in January at the Speedway event.
But the manner in which Eagon won the race, racing clear of Winchester’s Marcus Green and his B&W clubmate Marcus Dunsford to win by over a minute, shows just how much he has improved in the subsequent months.
Dunsford worked hard and was also rewarded with not only his first appearance on the podium but also a PB.
“Conditions weren’t great and the course wasn’t exactly flat, so very happy to finish third overall out of 302 and managed to take a few more seconds off my PB,” said Dunsford.
Helen Newberry (pictured right) secured a Bristol & West double by winning the women’s race in a time of 37:05, well outside her PB of 35:42 set at the Simplyhealth Great Bristol 10k in May.
Helen Clarke of Bitton Road Runners was third in 42:02, which carved 19 seconds off the PB she set just over a year ago in the Exmouth 10k so a cracking result for her.
