THERE was a new winner in the final race of the Aztec West Winter 5k series with Exmouth-based Berihu Hadera racing to victory in a time of 15mins 05secs.
Hadera who has trained with Bristol & West’s Tom Merson in the past, finished just six seconds clear of former B&W runner Oli Mott (15:11), now with Cheltenham Harriers with Bristol University’s Alex Matchett third in 15:15.
Leading Bristol & West runner was Luke Evans in fourth clocking 15:17 with the North Somerset duo of Josh Davies (15:32) and James Rodgers (15:34) fifth and sixth respectively.
Top junior in 10th was Hugh Sadler, who clocked 15:54 and was a clear winner of the under-17 men’s category.
In the age groups Andy Prophett of Cheltenham Harriers took M40 honours finishing 26th (16:49), while Keith Littlewood of Barnsley AC took the M45 category (17:34) just in front of M50 winner Phil Murray of Southville Running Club (17:38).
Pete Mountain of Bristol & West was first M55 as he clocked 18:46 in 73rd overall and Dave Bedwell of Bristol & West took the M60 category by over a minute as he finished 66th in 18:27.
Ruth Barnes of Avon Valley Runners was a clear winner of the women’s race in 16:54 as she finished 28th overall. Behind her was under-17s winner Ellie Wallace of Westbury Harriers in 17:34.
The four race summer series commences on Tuesday 26th April 2016 with the course and registration venue the same as for the winter series.
