WITH her fourth win of the season Keira Devereux wrapped up the Gwent Cross Country League title in some style at Blaise Castle yesterday.
The North Somerset AC rookie added maximum points to her previous three wins and one second place to convincingly lift the under 13 girls’ crown.
Team work: Keira Devereux, coach Julian Emery and Millie Redman
For good measure clubmate Mille Redman finished runner-up to secure sixth place overall as the league reached its climax in a terrific finale superbly staged by Westbury Harriers.
But as coach Julian Emery commented the pair, who are both in his training group, weren’t the only runners from North Somerset AC to impress.
“Today was the last Gwent League fixture of the season and we had 100 plus juniors running which is fantastic,” said Emery.
“We had three individual medals and three team medals lots of 4th-5th places as well. Everyone has worked so hard this cross country season.”
To prove he doesn’t just talk a good game Emery even decided to have a run himself in the senior men’s race – celebrating a recent landmark having reached a half century – and showed a glimpse of that old form as he came home 50th out of around 400 runners!
“It was very tough so thanks for all the support,” he added.
As for the future of the club Will Scott (pictured right) continued his fine season to secure second place overall in the under 15 boys’ age group and also helped NSAC to finish third team.
More news to follow as and when the results are confirmed.
