Chambers is back on the comeback trail with swift 5k

GOOD to see Andrew Chambers back racing again after another long period of injury forced him on the sidelines.

The Bristol & West AC runner turned up for the fifth and penultimate race in the Yeovilton 5k road race series for what was his first race since placing 16th at the Midland Counties Cross Country Championships at the end of January.

Chambers may have been rusty but he can take great encouragement with a swift time of 15mins 27secs for fifth place on a course that had been altered due to road works and was generally regarded as a touch slower than normal – thought still one of the quickest circuits in the west country.

That was born out by a powerful turn-out from the Bideford boys as they packed the top four, all of whom finished inside 15mins 15secs.

Winner was rising junior star Flynn Jennings in a rapid 15mins 02secs with Ronnie Richmond runner-up (15:06), Dan Mappp third (15:12) and veteran Mark Jenkin fourth (15:15).

Other local runners included Team Bath junior Alex Parsons in seventh (15:56) with clubmate Aaron Pritchard ninth (15:58).

Fastest woman was Taunton AC’s Hannah Taunton in 18th overall (17:343) ahead of Wells City harriers Zoe Curle (18:17) with Team Bath teenager Freya Spruit (pictured above)  fourth in a massive PB of 18:34.
