Brave Evans cannot be faulted in national road relay drama

NO-ONE can accuse Luke Evans of not giving his all for his club in the National Road Relay Championships.

Evans was promoted from the Bristol & West AC B squad to run the sixth and final stage for the A team but not in his wildest dreams – or team manager Keith Brackstone’s! – could he have foreseen taking over in the lead.

It was unenviable responsibility especially as he had a posse of top class club men right on his shoulder but Evans certainly didn’t wilt as his time of 18mins 55secs was nearly 40 seconds faster than he ran in the Midland Championships two weeks before.

That he slipped from first to fifth shouldn’t obscure the fact that it was a gutsy run – and that he put himself on the line.
