Abdi leads Westbury teenagers to strong showing in Newport

WESTBURY Harriers’ under 15 boys team produced another strong performance in the Gwent Cross Country League to consolidate their position in top spot with just one match remaining.

A week after struggling in the mud and cold at the South West Schools’ Championships Abdi Hasan (pictured right with clubmate Hannah Hobbs) led home the Westbury squad in second place, and despite losing to arch local rival Sam Gentry, still leads the individual standings by one point.

“The last race, at Pembrey in March, should be a real cracker!” said club spokesman Neil Miller.

In the Under 17 men’s race Aidan Noble continued his recent good form with a strong second place.

Westbury results – U11s: Isaac Osborne 40, Finley White 74, Harry Lucker 90.

U13: Seamus Robinson 4.

U15: Abdifataah Hasan 2, James Harrod 4, Alex Grocott 8, Greg Hayward 13, Fred Stewart 30.
