A magic night for Millar as he smashes 5000m PB

JACK Millar smashed his personal best over 5000m with a superb victory at the British Milers Club Grand Prix B race in Manchester over the weekend.

In his fourth 5000m track race since April 8th the Bristol & West AC runner (pictured above, courtesy of the British Milers Club) finally put down a time that more accurately reflects his ability as he clocked 14mins 16.73secs at SportCity.

That slashed almost eight seconds off his 2021 best and lifted him to fifth on the South West Rankings – second quickest B&W runner behind Kurt Taylor (14:12.78). Both men will surely get close to the 14 minutes landmark this summer.

Millar has certainly worked hard to get his PB after opening his season with 14:34.33 representing a combined Oxford/Cambridge team in America last month.

The following week, also in America, he ran 14:45.83 and then on his return to the UK clocked 14:37.81 at the Battersea Park Comeback 5000m.

But the BMC served up a perfectly-paced race with its usual strong competition allowing Millar to unleash his best 12-and-a-half laps ever. It was only ever a question of time!
